Term Definition
Zinc  Chemical symbol Zn, Element number 30 of the periodic system with and atomic weight of 65.38 and a blue-white color. At ordinary temperatures, this metal, when pure, is ductile and malleable having a melting point of 787ºF and a boiling point of 1665ºF. Zinc is highly resistant to atmospheric corrosion, and is widely used as a protective coating for iron, steel sheet, and wire.
Zirconium (Zr)  A strong, ductile metal with good corrosion resistance at high temperatures. Its uses include a cladding material for uranium, in nuclear reactors as a structural material, and it acts as a deoxidizing element in steel when combined with sulphur.
Z-mill  A mill which operates with a small in diameter work roll (approximately 2 inches) that is backed up by a number of rolls in a pyramid shaped stack, This allows the exertion of extremely high forces through the work roll, yet minimizes the action of extreme flexing. The take-up roll on the Z-mill (Sendzimir mill) also exerts a tension on the coil as it comes through the mill. The material is rolled thin and flat due the combination of the high pressure and tension.
