	Term	Definition
	Jig Saw Steel	Steel, which is hardened, tempered and bright polished with round edges. It contains .85 carbon and is produced in a range of sizes, from .039-. 393 wide and .016-. 039 thick.
	Jominy Test	A test to determine the harden-ability of steel. A 25mm x 100mm standard test piece is heated to a specific temperature and quenched by water that is sprayed onto one end. The measurements of hardness are taken when the specimen is cold, at intervals along the test piece at the quenched end. The results are subsequently plotted on a standard chart and then transposed into the harden-ability curve. This test indicates if the steel is of a shallow, medium or deep hardening type and illustrates the effect of mass upon a chosen steel.
	Joule	A unit of energy. One joule equals the energy expended in one second by one ampere versus the resistance of one ohm. The Charpy V impact test, the joule is the unit applied for the mechanical testing of steel.
